Blue Marsh

Hello and welome to My View for Wednesday, July 22, 2009.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a nice week.

Today’s image is one taken of the marsh area on the other side of the footbridge near the pier on Jekyll Island. I had been out shooting after the Jekyll Island workshop was over. I made my way back across the footbridge after the sun had set. There was still just a bit of ambient light in the sky and the lights had come up on the pier, and the surrounding area.

I was “playing” with moving my camera to capture an abstract view of the marsh. It is a long exposure, so I made very small movements with the camera, stopping for a second or three between movements.

As I was searching for something to post this week, I came across this image again. Not only do I like the total abstraction, but it reflected my mood this week as I had to say good-bye to a dear companion.

As always, your comments and critiques are most welcome. They make me a better photographer, aid my growth as a person and offer me new experiences.

Colors of the Marsh

Hello and welome to My View for Sunday, June 14, 2009.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend.

Today’s image is from one of the marsh areas on Jekyll Island. It was taken late in the afternoon as the sun was getting to be low in the sky. The image was created by moving the camera as the shutter was open. I converted the image out of a RAW file in both daylight and tungsten white balance and blended the two conversions.

As always, your comments and critiques are most welcome.

Summer in the South

Hello and welome to My View for Sunday, June 1, 2008.

Summer seems to have arrived here in the South. Yesterday, our temperatures approached 90 degrees for the first time this year. Sitting outside with my dogs, I found myself swatting at mosquitos. Things slow down in the South in the summer. The heat and humidity force us to do that.

Thinking about the long, hot summer ahead of us reminded me of last year’s long hot summer. I was in the marsh of the south Georgia coast during a two-week period where the temperatures reached 104 degrees for two days. I went back through my files and found this image that I took late one evening, at the very end of the trip, after the sun had set and the moon was already rising. The cooler night air was slowly sinking in all around making the marsh much more bearable and showing all of it’s beauty. As I was processing this image today, the sounds of the Porgy and Bess lullaby, “Summertime” kept running through my mind.

Summertime, and the living is easy
Fish are jumping, and the cotton is high
Your daddy’s rich, and your ma is good looking
So hush little baby, don’t you cry.

One of these mornings, you’re gonna rise up singing
You’re gonna spread your wings as you take the sky
But till that morning, there’s nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mammy standing nigh

May your “living be easy” this summer.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed and help me grow as an artist and a person.

Thank you for visiting My View.
