Happy New Year and New Decade!!!

Hello and welome to My View for Thursday, December 31, 2009.

Happy New Year and Happy New Decade,

As we end the first decade of the 21st century — doesn’t that still sound odd?? — and begin a new year and new decade, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year.

In the last decade much has changed. We entered this decade with a fear of computer software meltdowns and a disruption of life as we know it. Fortunately, none of that came to pass. Other events did, indeed, change life as we know it on a global scale. It wasn’t the best way to start a new century.

Throughout he decade, many, more personal, events brought me much joy, as well as sorrow. I made many new friends, saw many new family members come into this world — and lost a few along the way. I almost lost some and those events gave me pause to think about myself and the way I’ve lived my life so far.

A new beginning is just hours away. New beginnings are always a bit mysterious. We can’t quite see clearly to know how things are going to turn out. But, we go forth, with faith, keeping our hopes and dreams alive. Such is the nature of a new beginning.

Thus with joy in our hearts, memories of the last years, guided by the light of our dreams, and with courage to go forth without knowing the future, let us all enter this new year and new decade determined to be the best we can be and to add a little of our best to making the world a better place.

A very Happy New Year to you all!!!!

As always, your comments and critiques are most welcome. They make me a better photographer, aid my growth as a person and offer me new experiences.

  4. The contrast between the softness of the fog and the hardness of the asphalt & rails really engages me in this image. I love Usha’s comment about the journey into the unknown. What a great image for New Year’s Eve!

  5. Marti-
Happy New Year…I loved the feel of this image – makes me stay with it and I like the car in the distance leaving. I think I took a bunch of shots at dawn right there. The one change I would make is cropping the bottom, so that the blue would now leave the picture at the bottom right corner, if that makes sense. It somehow simplified things for me yet kept the mystery that’s so great about the picture.
    Best,
    Daniel

  6. Marti, what a lovely image – colorwise. When I looked at it, my impression was “the new year” coming to me, then I realize, no, it is leaving. I guess that is reflective of today – a year leaving, a year beginning. I read recently that endings are needed for beginnings to happen. It has been a treat for me to have met you and I truly hope to see you in this next year. You helped open my life up to a whole new world. Take care and my you have grace and peace in the new year.

  9. Looks dangerous somehow. I know, it’s rear lights, but still :)

  10. Happy New Year, Marti – and to all your well wishers, too. Marti, this is such a lovely symbolic image. I love the mystery of it – also the colors. I esp like that the warm colors which to me signify hope and happiness, far outweigh the blues, which signify slowing down and retrospection, and perhaps some sorrow. But there’s 2 more lights in the blues, placed in the auspicious upper right – lights of hope and happiness and spirituality that we are all striving for. Two lights, not one, signifying to me that we’re never alone.

May this new year hold excitement and enthusiasm for us all.

    Hugs,
    Flo

  12. What a wonderfully amorphous, suggestive, and mysterious image — so fitting for both endings and beginnings.

All my best wishes to you in this New Year!

  13. Great shot, Marti. I have never been on River Street when the fog is so heavy so this is a new view for me. I love the mystery that you managed to capture in this shot. It adds to the ghostly history that Savannah is so famous for.

Happy New Year to you, too, Marti.
